Northwood’s non-profit, community betterment
organization, TUNE (Total United Northwood Effort), purchased the J.B.
Thompson property for $1.00 in 2003.
At that time all three levels of the structure were severely
damaged from a leaking roof.
Fundraising efforts began, and numerous members of the community and the
Northwood-Kensett school district volunteered to help with the removal
of many layers and loads of debris.
The first
phase of this project was replacing the roof, windows and tuckpointing
to eliminate further interior damage.
Phase two began with pouring concrete for a new basement floor
and framing the interior from the ground up.
The final phase included construction completion of the
auditorium, restrooms, lobby and the elevated projection room.
Once flooring, seating and concession equipment were installed,
we opened for business on
